I couldn't agree more. I met a friend who I had not seen in long time for a quick lunch. We both only had about an hour to spare. We sat down ordered a drink, she went out for a cigarette and came back and was on her phone, whispered to me, I just need to make a few phone calls. We ordered lunch, she was still on the phone. She broke for a few minutes to tell me about her phone calls and then made one more call. I asked for the check. She wanted to stay for one more drink. Instead of saying why would I want to continue sit here with you on the phone, I just said I have to go and left. If there is a next time, whether it be a phone call or a texting session, I will leave.

you tell em, fran. i am with you on this, to the nth degree. then again, technology doesn't create the rudeness or narciccism, it simply provides a new outlet for it. the same people texting others while allegedly enjoying your company (and, let's face it: every second they miss with you? it's their loss) would have found other ways to be inappropriate back before the must-be-in-contact-with-everyone-at-all-times era. anyway, thanks for taking a stand.
